New Photoshop Brushes What’s Good?
Adobe released their new Photoshop brushes for Summer 2022 by Kyle Webster last month, unlike the Fall 2021 collection, there were not as many to choose from. The theme for the summer is more nature based with brushes like Stonehenge with a few patterns tossed in like Azteque. Let’s see what’s good and if this is worth downloading.
Brush Types
There were only thirty-nine brushes in this summer release, many of which are based off natural materials with names like Stonehenge, Fossil, Marbled Bloomin and Azteque. These brushes are aimed at more nature-themed digital painting with soft and rough textures and patterns. Some brushes like Summer Wash Light lend themselves to be good for lighting where Soft Spat adds more realism to a scene.

These brushes come in a variety of sizes and seamlessly blend. They can be used as stamps (with the example of Azteque shown below) or drawn as a normal brush. With brushes like Marbled, Fossil, Hollowed and Stonehenge they can be great for adding texture to a piece. The Bloomin brush is perfect for creating soft foliage whereas the Soft Spat brush is better for adding dimension, I used it in an attempt to replicate terrazzo.
Worth It?
In my opinion they are worth downloading and adding to your library of brushes. If you are a digital artist that likes realism then these brushes are definitely up your alley. These brushes can also be transformed to create all types of textured looks no matter what you are painting. That Summer Wash Light brush would be perfect for a type based piece to give it a “neon sign” type of glow. There are more to explore than the brushes I listed here, the full list is below.
Try them out for yourself and see how they can elevate your digital art. They definitely elevated my Naturally piece with all the textured surfaces on the type and in the background. The Summer Wash brushes and the Fossil brush blend out nicely with a Gaussian Blur to create depth.
